2020 bond funds helped to bring a recent boost to several high school athletic facilities across the district. As students return for a new school year, many high school athletes will be playing on new and improved fields and courts for both boys and girls sports. Recent projects include:

  • North High School – football field turf replacement, also featured on 9 News “Fanscapes”
  • South High School – basketball/volleyball court floor replacement with the new “Ravens” mascot logo
  • Evie Dennis campus – football field turf replacement
  • John F. Kennedy High School – football field turf replacement

Future projects include:

  • DSST: College View – new playing field for middle and high school
  • West Middle/High School Campus – turf replacement
  • South High School – turf replacement
  • Dr. MLK Luther King, Jr. Early College – new varsity soccer field with lights, practice soccer field, CHSAA-sized basketball/volleyball court, locker rooms, training room.

These projects follow a multitude of athletic facility improvements that were funded through the 2016 bond. Over the last five years, 10 schools have received field lights and 12 new athletic/play fields.

Continued community support through these voter-approved funds helps DPS ensure that our sports teams are playing on the high-quality surfaces that every student deserves.
